"WarCraft III: World of Warcraft (Wc3:WoW) is a WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne modification using it's powerful World Editor to create it. Wc3:WoW is mod attempting to recreate World of Warcraft as accurately as possible in the WarCraft III engine. However, it is single player because it is a campaign, not a map.
What do you do in Wc3:WoW?There are many things you can do in Wc3:WoW. You can create a character and customize him/her, accept and complete quests, invite Player-Bots to your group (we'll get into this later), enter dungeons and instances, and much more!
Is Wc3:WoW multiplayer? No. Wc3:WoW is a 'Campaign' which is playable on Single Player.
What exactly is the point of Wc3:WoW?The objective of the game depends on however you wish to play. Generally, the objective is to reach the highest level in the game (60) and have fun exploring end-game instances for equipment and end-game PvP.
So what's special about Wc3:WoW out of all the other WoW mods for WarCraft III?The majority of maps and mods that attempt to create replicas of WoW have poor terrain and fail to achieve enough WoW Factors that pull in a player's attention and make it a recognizable game for current or retired World of Warcraft players who play the map/mod. Wc3:WoW strives to excell in all possible ways of making Wc3:WoW look and feel good, as well as resemble World of Warcraft. For example, we recreate landscapes and cityscapes such as Mulgore and Orgrimmar accurately too, based off of in-game footage and screenshots for our terrainers to precisely place objects and yet make it fit the world's scale as best as possible for a WarCraft III mod.
If this is single player, what's the point of playing if you're the only Horde/Alliance character running around?
Wc3:WoW has characters whom are controlled by A.I. and triggered events to make them seem more real than static bots. They 'play' as though they were real players, doing things like grinding mobs for experience, ganking players, or even working on completing quests. We like to call these bots 'Player-Bots' usually because they're more lively than some ordinary A.I. controlled character. Player-Bots will be able to join your group, join battlegrounds, and cooperatively work with friendly Player-Bots and you to succeed.
Sounds interesting. How sophisticated are these 'Player-Bots?'Right now they're in a very early stage and do not do much of what's listed above. They can join your group, grind experience, exit/enter new zones, and gank. But they have very poor knowledge on how to use their class' spells and how to work with a team intelligently. As time progresses, we're working on making them more complex and realistic. But as of right now, we're hardly done prototyping them.
Name a few WoW Factors that you guys are working on in Wc3:WoW.Aside from the landscapes and cityscapes from looking very similar to those in World of Warcraft, we're also working on adding and replacing a lot of the user interface too. Though the WarCraft III engine doesn't allow us to remove some User Interface features in WarCraft III by default, we try to work our way around it by making it benefit the mod in some way. Custom interfaces we're working on adding will be looting windows, trade windows, a new quest log window, bank window, bag windows, etc. And aside from the looks of Wc3:WoW, the mod will sound and feel like WoW thanks to the usage of World of Warcraft music and sound effects. Once we add dungeons that involve raids, a lot more WoW Factors will come into play and the mod will be overall much more enjoyable.
What are Wc3:WoW developers focusing on most?New features and terrain for sure. It's the first two things players see and is what grabs their attention when viewing our website, Mod DB profile screenshots, or whatever. Presentation of the mod should be the main focus right now so we can attain a good reputation and then maintain it as we improve upon the looks of the mod. Though the mod looks good now, we'll most likely redo a lot of the textures and models too maybe to be of higher quality to fit the World of Warcraft theme instead of the WarCraft III theme. Other things we try to focus on aside from looks is fixing bugs which our dedicated BETA Testers report to us. They've done a fine job reporting them and we've got about 45 reported bugs to look at. In the long-run, our main focus is getting the mod to look great while also improving it to make the next private BETA launch more successful and bug-free.
Where can I download Wc3:WoW?You can download the very first version of Wc3:WoW ever made at our Mod DB profile or at our website. However, it is terrible compared to the version we're working on now (version 2.0) for the one we're working on now simple puts the first Wc3:WoW to utter shame.
When will version 2.0 be released? There is no release date at the moment and we cannot comfortably predict when it will be released due to it still being under heavy development. When the mod is in a stable condition with enough in it to make it enjoyable for the player, then we'll think about setting up a release date. All we can really say is "It's done when it's done!
What's new in version 2.0 that differs from version 1.0?Too many things to mention briefly. Check out our forums, we have a change-log there that tells you what to expect from version 2.0!
I can't wait for it's release! I wanna play it now!Unfortunately, you and the rest of the world will have to wait for it's official public release before you can play the mod. However, playing the mod and testing it are two totally different things. Playing Wc3:WoW is to play the mod for fun – and quite frankly, the mod is too buggy and incomplete to be considered fun. Testing it, on the other hand, is generously and patiently playing the mod to intentionally discover bugs, glitches, and any other issues with the mod, and then list the problem with a lot of detail in a word document and then email it to the Wc3:WoW development team to look at it. We're usually looking for private BETA testers, but only those who sound like they know what they're being asked to do. If you ever email an application to the Wc3:WoW team and we don't respond within a month, chances are that your email was deleted... intentionally.
Who's working on Wc3:WoW?Many people have worked on Wc3:WoW, but very few tend to stay for a long time. To find out who has been on the team and who is still on the team, check The Team page.
